FROM A PASSION

After battling hormonal hair concerns since the age of 16, Joanne Andonakis set out to find a solution for her condition. This ambition spearheaded the start of her career in the beauty industry and electrolysis training with international accreditations from CIDESCO and ITEC.

Wanting to combine her personal hair removal experience and two decades in the industry, Joanne established Medtech Electrolysis – an electrolysis hair removal clinic in Sydney and the Gold Coast. Over the next 15 years specialising in electrolysis, Joanne saw a gap between hair removal concerns and industry practices.

While the industry evolved with new treatments, tools, and strategies, traditional educational programs still resulted in frequent misapplications, overtreatment, and skin damage or hair growth stimulation.

Medtech Education is designed to bridge the gap between all hair removal methods. By working hand in hand with beauty colleges, these Masterclasses give students, educators, and the broader community access to the latest resources, equipment, and training to ensure the hair removal industry continues to move forward – together.

ME and Joanne’s commitment to the enduring health and confidence of clients has called for an even deeper exploration into the outcomes and opportunities revealed by modern hair removal. In 2026, Joanne will take this mission one step further by undertaking a PhD in Paradoxical Hypertrichosis — a world-first academic inquiry that aims to give this underreported condition the scientific recognition, credibility and visibility it deserves.

This next chapter marks more than a personal milestone; it is a defining moment for the hair-removal industry. Through research, evidence, and unwavering advocacy, Joanne continues to pave a new path forward — one where practitioners are empowered, clients are protected, and the future of hair removal is grounded in integrity, innovation, and true care.
